One counselor. 372 students. The math has never worked.

NameTBD reads your course catalog, remembers every student conversation, and tracks every deadline — so counselors spend their day on the one thing software can’t do: counseling.

4 students need your attention today
Maya Patel — her college list is reach-heavy, and she just told us affordability is becoming a concern.
Daniel Kim — wants to explore engineering. Engineering Design runs next semester.
The other 308 students look steady.

Most dashboards show a counselor everything. That’s the problem.

312 students, 47 tasks, and 8 charts is not information — it’s homework. A counselor’s scarcest resource isn’t data; it’s attention. NameTBD spends the computer’s attention watching all 312, so the counselor can spend theirs on the four who need a human today.

How it works
It knows your school

Not schools in general — yours. Which courses run, what the prerequisites are, which programs are free, where your graduates actually went. Built from the documents a school already has.

2026–27 Course Catalog, p. 47
It knows each student

Through real conversation, not a 40-question form. It notices that a student loved the labs but hated the memorizing — and that’s a more useful fact than “Interest: STEM.” No horoscopes; specifics, with evidence.

Verified Inferred Uncertain
It turns both into next steps

Not “seven clubs and a national award.” The next useful thing for this kid at this school: a free research program, one course, a three-hour conversation with someone in the field. Sometimes the advice is to do less.

Every suggestion shows its reasoning — and what would change it.

Auditable, not magical.

Counselors don’t distrust software because it’s new. They distrust it because it’s confidently wrong — an AP course that no longer runs, a prerequisite that doesn’t exist. One wrong answer costs a student a semester.

So NameTBD follows one hard rule: if it doesn’t know, it says it doesn’t know. Every institutional fact carries its source. Every recommendation separates what’s verified, what’s inferred, and what’s still uncertain.

Why am I suggesting Mock Trial?
Student evidence — Maya brings up institutions, debate, and writing in four separate conversations.
School context — Mock Trial is active, meets Thursdays, costs nothing.
Constraint — affordability rules out paid pre-law programs.
Uncertainty — we don’t yet know if she wants to practice law or just loves the questions. This is the cheapest way to find out.

The system that deliberately knows less.

Everyone else brags about how much their software learns about students. We think the winning move — with families, with school boards, with the law — is restraint. NameTBD keeps what counseling needs and leaves the rest unrecorded.

The district owns the data
Access, retention, export, deletion — your rules, enforced in the product. FERPA school-official framework, DPA included, audit logs on everything.
No secondary use
No advertising, no data sales, no training general models on student conversations. Student data exists to run your counseling service, and for nothing else.
Students see their own file
“What I’m remembering about you” is a page every student can read, correct, or wipe. Understanding kids without building permanent profiles of them.

The demo is your school, not ours.

A pilot begins with documents a school already has. From the course catalog and handbook alone, the first meeting shows a school its own knowledge base — every course, club, and years of outcomes, already built and citing its sources.

Pilots stay deliberately small: one school, a couple of counselors, ninety days. The measure of success is simple — whether the counselors would be upset to lose it.
